防護服不僅要排濕透氣、穿著自如，還要讓醫護人員免受診療過程中病毒、細菌等各種污染物的感染，抵擋住水液、酒精、油漬侵入，而且要有效抗靜電，甚至防止灰塵進入。

由于采用微納米級別的醫衛防護非織造材料，防護服的基本要求就是“三拒一抗”，即拒水、拒血液、拒酒精以及抗靜電。靳向煜進行科普說，這樣的復合材料可以通過不同材料復合，如用聚乙烯/聚丙烯紡黏非織造布，與透氣微孔薄膜或其他非織造布復合，或用水刺非織造布與透氣微孔薄膜復合，或用木槳復合水刺非織造布。

值得注意的是，防護服材料的幾種性能有嚴格標準，包括防護性（密封性）、服用性、安全衛生性。其中防護性要求具有液體阻隔功能，防護服關鍵部位（左右前襟、左右臂及背部位置）帶著抗滲水性，可耐靜水壓不低于1.67千帕（kPa）；抗合成血液穿透性不低于2級，即合成血液以1.75千帕的壓強作用于防護服上，5分鐘后不得穿透；同時，防護服外側面沾水等級不低于3級。此外，還要防微顆粒物穿透，關鍵部位及接縫處對非油性顆粒物的過濾效率不低于70%。

對于服用性要求，防護服要有足夠強度和尺寸穩定性，進行拉伸試驗時，斷裂強力不低于45牛，斷裂伸長率不低于30%；穿著舒適性方面，防護服材料具有透濕量要求。而安全衛生性則要求自身無毒，無皮膚刺激性，抗霉菌滋生。
